Jordan Boyd
Jordan Boyd, a junior in her third year of wrestling, has continued to show tremendous improvements throughout the year. Boyd was able to place seventh at the girls state finals event in Kokomo in January, making it to state for the first time in her career.
“I’m not satisfied with my place, but I'm satisfied with my performance,” Boyd said.
Boyd continues to strive for more success as she moves on to the rest of wrestling season and even into next year.
“Next year I definitely want to place higher, maybe even come home with gold,” Boyd said.
Mikail Hall
Mikail Hall, a senior with nothing to lose this season, left it all out on the mat. Hall was able to make a run to the state finals and came away with an eighth place finish.
“I feel good. I feel like I went out there and I gave it my best and I’m proud [of] the results that I got,” Hall said.
Hall found the support for the team this year very impressive.
“Honestly, I was very surprised with the amount of support that girls wrestling got this year. I mean, there's always room to grow, but this year they really did focus on trying to give the girl wrestlers the same thing they give the boys and I think that was really sweet,” Hall said.
Sierra Holder
Sierra Holder, a first year wrestler did not fail to impress, fought her way to an eighth place finish. Holder finished the year ranked seventh in the state according to indianamat.com.
“I know I could have done better, but it’s okay. First year, hope to keep continuing this,” Holder said.
Holder is big on promoting the girls wrestling program and hopes for it to grow.
“A lot of females are scared because they don’t understand it. [The program] can bring them out more, like, show them what it’s really about. We have family, it’s not just you,” Holder said.
Kiersten O’Neill
Kiersten O’Neill, a senior who transferred to Warren from Wabash High School in northern Indiana with her dad, the head wrestling coach, proved her worth. At Wabash, she won two girls state titles and then came to Warren and won her third.
“I feel good. I’ve done it before but, you know, one last ride, had to get it done,” O’Neill said.
O’Neill has always had success when it comes to wrestling but it was boosted this year with her new team.
“I’ve never had a team this big. Having this many girls by my side, having them smiling and having fun with me at tournaments, it really means a lot to me,” O’ Neill said.
