One of the newest hit video games, Marvel Rivals, is shattering records and surpassing everyone’s expectations. Developed by Marvel Games and NetEase Games, Marvel Rivals is a team-based PVP shooter game inspired by the art and fighting style of the Overwatch franchise.
With characters from all over the Marvel universe such as Iron Man, Magneto, Moon Knight, Spider-Man and many more, it creates an expansive roster of 35 heroes and villains for players to choose from.
The game has two different match types, casual and competitive, which is broken down into four game modes, convoy, domination, convergence and conquest. In these matches players and their team try to complete different objectives for each game mode while also fighting against another five-man team whose goal is to stop you.
The game’s debut began with Season 0, “Doom’s Rise,” and it follows two different versions of Doctor Doom, one from the future and one from the present, both fighting with one another for control of the Multiverse. The two warring villains caused different universes to become entangled with one another, and the players are the ones who have to deal with the fallout.
In just a matter of weeks, Marvel Rivals has grown to be one of the biggest and most played games in 2025, even reaching 10 million players in the first three days after its release. On Steam, Marvel Rivals has already surpassed Overwatch’s peak player count of 634,000 players, with Marvel Rivals reaching 644,000 players at its peak.
Many Overwatch players and fans expected the game to die out in its first month, but fans can’t get enough of this new and exciting game.
With the release of its very first season, “Eternal Night Falls,” new characters, cosmetics and updates have been added to the game. Adding characters from the Fantastic Four along with a new battle pass has only added to the excitement surrounding this game. Along with bringing in new heroes, this season is also bringing in new villains. The main villain of this new season is Dracula, the lord of the vampires, and it is about how he is taking advantage of all of the chaos and plunging the world into eternal darkness.
With much more exciting seasons and content to come, the game is only going to get bigger and better. The vast Marvel universe is at their disposal, so there's no telling what's in store for Marvel Rivals in the future.
